Outeniqua Trout
Lodge is situated on 178
hectares of esteem nature between Knysna and Uniondale South
Africa, on route with
‘the Prince Alfred Pass’ in itself a wonder of nature.
The pass was built in 1850 on the route that was used by the elephants
to venture on to greener pastures during the dry months and the on the
original budget of 15 000 Pounds to built the road, a savings of 4 000
Pounds was achieved and later named after the son of Queen Victoria –
Prince Alfred Pass.
The trout farm was established around 1980 and prouds
itself to be totally ‘green’ in providing its own electricity and
water from natural resources making it totally independent from Escom power and or any
other services.
Farmers in the surrounding area have all agreed to establish a nature
sanctuary and in that respect there are no fences between the farms
making it a unique nature conservation area with excellent bird life and
nature at its best. Caves on the farm even have ‘busmen drawings’ dating
back to centuries before portraying life in the ages where we were never
there.
Besides having its own hatchery with a
continuous stock of around 30 000
trout, 3 cement dams and 3 ground dams further enriches the farm. The
Keurboomsriver and Kwaai River flow through the farm giving it an
estuary with unlimited fishing and other facilities.
The season on the farm allows excellent trout fishing throughout the
year and trout released into the river and dams from the hatchery makes
it a guaranteed experience of a lifetime.
The
farm is well maintained and the management team consists of nature
lovers, qualified people whose interest is nature and the conservation
thereof.
All roads on the farm are easily accessible and there is no need to have
to have a 4x4 vehicle to reach your destination.
Driving on the pass towards the farm is in itself a nature lovers dream
come true. Every turn in the road leaves you breathless, with clear
water streams, bridges and sights unequivocal which can hardly be
described in words.
